How old do I have to be to play?

Learn To Play: Ages 5–8.

Youth and Girls Leagues: Ages 9-16, and are further separated into divisions by age group

Adults: Ages 17+, and are further separated into divisions by skill level.

What’s the skill level like?

Youth, Girls, and Learn to Play: Our strict non-contract policy allows players of all sizes and skill levels to enjoy their experience! In addition, our trained staff help coaches make sure that all kids are prepared to their games, ready to have fun, and challenged appropriately

Adults: Adult leagues are separated into recreational and competitive divisions to maintain parity. Usually, there are 2–3 divisions based on skill level and experience.

My daughter wants to play with many of her friends, some of whom are boys, does she have to play in the Girls League?

Our Youth League is open to players of all genders, and are separated by age group. She is absolutely allowed to sign up for one of those divisions!

Our Girls League is specifically designed to give girls the opportunity to play flag football in an environment that they are most comfortable in. Your daughter can play in that division too!

A note about Women & Adult Leagues: Our adult leagues are open to all genders. Unlike some other recreational leagues, we do not have rules in place that require a certain ratio of men and women on the field. We have had many women play in our adult league over the years, with positive feedback throughout!

How many players are on each team?

Learn To Play: We maintain a 8 players to 1 staff ratio.
Kids: Each team usually has between 10-14 players on each team, with games played at 7- on-7.
Adults: Games are played at 7-on-7, and we recommend that you roster at least 10 players so that you are unlikely to be down a player if a few of your teammates can’t come one day!

Do I need to purchase any equipment?

Learn To Play, Youth, and Girls Leagues: The TFFL provides jerseys and flag belts for all players. We ask that players do not wear any items of clothing that have pockets so that they aren’t torn when players reach for flags and miss!

Adults: Teams are required to bring their own uniforms, flag belts, footballs, and tees. These items can be purchased from the league by your team captain.

What if I can’t play on certain days or times?

We use a check-in system that allows you to let your team know if you are unable to make it to one of your games.

Adult Only: At the beginning of the season, we encourage our captains to complete scheduling requests that we will try our best to honour. We use “Captain-Approved Scheduling” that allows team captains to review the first draft of the schedule and address any concerns they have before publishing the official copy of the schedule.

Can I wear cleats?

Cleats are not permitted in Learn To Play, Youth, or Girls League programs.

Adult players may wear cleats, provided they do not have metal spikes or tips.

Can I request size, colour, and player number for my jersey?

Learn To Play, Youth, and Girls Leagues: Every player receives a jersey and can choose their size and number on the first day of the season.

Adult League: Teams that purchase jerseys through TFFL will have the opportunity to request a colour. Top choices will be given to teams on a first-come first-serve basis.

What are the rules?

Our official rule book is available in the Rules section of our website. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need clarification!

How often are standings and statistics updated?

Through our new GameCast application, statistics, scores and standings are updated in real time! You can follow along your or your child’s team through GameCast and view the play-byplay of each game!

Can we add players to our team during the season? (ADULT ONLY)

Your team must start the season with at least seven (7) players. Throughout the season you can add as many players as you like.
