THE TORONTO FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE //
is a recreational league designed for everyone who loves to play the game of football. Our strict non-contact policy enables people of all sizes and levels of ability to compete in exciting football action in a safe and fun manner.
Our goal is to make the football experience for our players as safe, fun, and captivating as possible. We strive to make each player feel like they are getting a professional league type of experience in a recreational league setting. To this end, we provide honed game management techniques, as well as flexible scheduling, up-to-date comprehensive statistics, team accessories, and player/team awards.
Our mission is to make sure each player gets the utmost value out of his/her membership in the league.
LEAGUE HISTORY //
In the fall season of 2002, Andrew and Jacob, two friends who were playing intramural flag football at separate universities, decided they need an avenue to play the game once they returned to Toronto in the spring.
Thus began the Toronto Flag Football League -- a 6-team adult division operating out of two fields and with four employees.
By the spring of 2004, the league, with the assistance of a core group of highly dedicated returning players, referees, and volunteers, expanded its operations to include a youth division of four teams.
Currently, the league caters to over 800 players, with more than thirty teams in each division, five fields, and close to 100 part-time employees and volunteers.
While the numbers have grown, the spirit of the league remains the same as it did in season one: an avenue for people who love football, and everything that makes it great, to play the game.
OUR TEAM //
Andrew Clarfield-Henry, President & Owner //
Andrew started the league in 2003, and continues to run it to date. He prides himself on his long snapping, which is both somewhat tight and accurate. Andrew's newest venture is starting up an innovative healthcare company, HealthCare 365. For more information on this groundbreaking new model of healthcare, check out www.healthcare365.org.
Jacob Prager, President & Owner //
Jacob started the league in 2003, and continues to run it to date. His best season was in 2005, when he (arguably) led his division in flag pulls per game, and played in every game.
Daniel Cashman, VP Operations //
Daniel has been involved with the league since day one, filling pretty much every possible role. He currently takes care of day-to-day operations in the league, and is actually renowned across Toronto for his deceptively elusive spin.
Ryan Borenstein, Youth League Convenor //
Ryan assumed the role of Youth League Convenor in 2006, and has presided over the biggest youth divisions to date. He holds records for being both the youngest player in the league, and the youngest person to hold a position of direct responsibility.
Roey Fishman, Assistant Youth League Convenor //
Roey took on the job of Assistant Convenor in 2009, and continues to work in the same capacity. Roey has been involved in the league pretty much since the kids league started, and is way more knowledgeable about it than about detailing cars.
Rachel Baker, Adult League Convenor //
Rachel became the Adult League Convenor in 2009, and continues to run it to date. She has transitioned from being Rachel Baker the Stat Taker (statistician 2007) to Rachel Baker the Schedule Maker.
Bear Finewax, Volunteer/Employee Recruiter //
Bear recruits volunteer coaches for the youth division, as well as general league referees. Look for him at your school or sports venue; he's likely to wearing high Haggard-Orange socks.

What if I can't play on certain days or times?
We encourage you to fill out the 'scheduling requests' section of your application form.
While we cannot guarantee that you will get all of your requests, we guarantee we will do
our best to accommodate your schedule. We use "Captain-Approved Scheduling" for
Adult formed teams. This means your team's captain will be able to make changes to an initial
draft of the schedule. Following these changes, we will send out an official copy of the schedule.
Can I request teammates?
Absolutely! Just fill out the teammate request section on your application. We'll do our best to accomodate your requests.
Do I have to be a certain age to play?
Kids: Ages 9-16 (by December 31), and is separated further into divisions by age group.
Adults: Ages 17+ (by December 31) and is separated into divisions by skill level.
What's the skill level like?
Kids: Our strict non-contact policy enables kids of all sizes and levels of ability to compete. In addition, our trained coaches help make sure that all kids are prepared for the games, and ready to have fun and be athletically challenged.
Adults: The league is separated into different divisions to maintain parity. There are usually two-three divisions based on skill level and experience.
How many players are on a team?
Kids: Each team should have 9-12 players per team. The games feature a 7 on 7 format or 8 on 8 format.
Adults: The games are seven on seven format, but the minimum number of players required to field a team is eight. We recommend that you have at least ten players on your team, so you're less likely to be down a man for a game if a couple of your guys can't make it.
Can we add players to our team during the season?
Adults only: Your team must have the minimum number of players (8) required to field a team at the beginning of the season. You can add as many players as you like during the season, so long as they fill out a waiver form prior to playing.
How many teams will be in the league?
We expect around 4 to 8 teams per division.
How do individual players get assigned to a team?
Players are matched up with a team that is as close to their skill level and age group as possible. No team comprised of individuals is likely to have more than 12 people, so the playing time will be fair.
Do I need any equipment?
Kids: The TFFL provides jerseys and flag belts for all players to keep. We ask that players do not wear any items of clothing that have pockets, so they won't get torn when players reach for flags and miss.
Adults: Teams must provide their own flag belts, jerseys, football and tee. All these items can be purchased from the league upon registration by the captain.
Can I wear cleats?
Kids: Cleats are not permitted.
Adults: Cleats are acceptable so long as they don't have metal spikes or tips.
Can I request size, colour, and player number of my jersey?
Kids: Every player gets a jersey, and is able to choose the size. As for jersey numbers, the TFFL preselects a standard set of jersey numbers to make our stat-taking more manageable.
Adults: There is a section on the team registration form for jersey colour preferences. Top choices will be awarded to teams in the order of the applications we receive. As for jersey numbers, the TFFL preselects a standard set of jersey numbers to make our stat-taking more manageable.
What are the rules?
Our official rule book, as well as an abridged version of it, is available in our rules section . If you have any further questions pertaining to the rules, please don't hesitate to contact us.
